Printing Identification

In the late 1980s. J. D. Bonney and D. J. Lane developed a nomenclature for identifying the different types of printing of commercial overprints :

– Block (sans-serif)

S – Serif

G – General (everything else)

1 – Uppercase, letters of uniform height

2 – Uppercase, letters of different height

3 – Mixed uppercase and lowercase letters

H – Handstamp that was applied to the stamp before it was used

h – Handstamp that is thought to have been applied to the stamp before it was used
